I’m Brandon, a 31 year old engineer / trainer / gym owner that lives in the Pasadena, CA area.  I consider myself pretty lucky.  I’ve had some amazing experiences and have been blessed with many great successes in my life.

My Story

Originally from Kansas, I moved out to the Los Angeles area after completing my graduate work in electrical engineering.  I took a job at a prestigious national research institution and have happily toiled away in a dungeon as an engineer for the past 7 years.  In March of 2010, I went to a free trial class at CrossFit Pasadena, an action that dramatically changed the course of my life.  I played a lot of team sports growing up, but never took athletics too seriously.  However, CrossFit changed everything.  The competitive aspect took me from a once a month, 20 minutes at the local globo gym guy to a 7 days a week CrossFit addict (I’ve since learned my lesson on training everyday).

While I never really took athletics too seriously, my wife on the other hand, was a pretty serious runner growing up.  In fact, she still holds a Kansas state record for the half marathon.  Anyway, though I am an engineer and she is a pharmacist by day, we are both naturally ambitious people and were looking for a outlet to channel that into, something we could do together.  Harnessing the love we fostered for CrossFit and partnering with a friend and long-time coach, CrossFit 626 was born in March 2011.  Inspired by the Greg Amundson article on building a garage gym in the CrossFit Journal, we began modestly, running free WODs at a local high school track and nearby parks.  Soon we were training paying clients in our garage which we outfitted as a fully functional strength and conditioning center.  Through these initial experiences we learned a lot, received amazing feedback and in December 2011 took the leap by opening the doors at our commercial building.

This Site

Coaching and running a CrossFit affiliate has become a big part of my life.  It’s a simultaneously wonderful and supremely stressful experience.  I don’t pretend to have all the answers, or really any of them.  I plan on using this site to organize my thoughts and post what I learn on the topics of: coaching, programming and running a CrossFit box.  Hopefully someone out there will find what I post here useful.
